Yesterday on the news there was a sudden news flash that a car had been stolen from outside of a butchers shop in bristol with a child in the back. Initially it had been reported that it was a 2 year old child, but it subsequently turned out that the child was actually only 10 months old. 50 police officers were deployed to find the car, and it was subsequently discovered by a member of the public, the child, however, was not in the back.
Later on the news, it was reported that the child had actually been found safe and well at home and the owner of the vehicle had been arrested - it would seem that, so desparate to get his car back when it was stolen, he had said his baby was in the back, so the police would give it their immediate attention - how could someone do that!
yeah .. I know .. but some people take such such pride in their cars! I mean more than some of us can comprehend. Dad's like that. he will deny it, but it's true!
I'm not sure to what extent you could be punished for such a selfish act, but I wouldn't want to go to jail and be without out my child because I made a false report. I mean those 50 officers were taken away from other crimes and emergencies going on and that is so not fair to everyone else in need of assistance.
well apparently he was arrested on suspicion of causing a public disturbance, and has been released on police bale .. don't know what'll happen now .. and yeh know all about people and their cars - I used to work for a car insurance company and when it came to their cars people almost changed personality. in fact I had to deal with quotes for insurance for some customers who paid more for their cars than I paid for my house!
omg, thats crazy! i dont understand why someone would do that.
Does he stand a chance of having his child taken away from him? If he would use that child in that way, could he be seen as an unfit parent? Just wondering, I think what he did was extremely selfish and if I were that child's Mom, I'd have his hide.

It's a great way of getting the police to make you a priority, but lying to the3 police should be a criminal offense. I think it is, and the maximum sentence ought to be a year if you do it once, a year extra then everytime afterwords. I don't think any criminal deserves the right to bring up children so if they've already had a child, once found guilty of a criminal offense, that parent should have its child taken away from it unless the other parent is willing never to let the criminal see its child. If the other parent breeches this condition, that should be a criminal offense too, also carrying a sentence of a year in jail.
I think that to say that no criminal should be allowed to have children is perhaps a little harsh. After all, people who commit crimes are not all long-term offenders. Some people commit minor offences and go on to lead productive lives, to brand them for life is like saying "once a criminal, always a criminal". also, to put people in jail for allowing their criminal partners to see their children would result in the overstretched social services departments being taken to brekaing point, and what of the children of all the people who are languishing in jails purely because they allowed a partner to see their children.
I do agree however, that someone who uses their child in order to gain better police support for himself should be prosicuted, and that the welfare of the child should be investigated. But in all reality, I would imagine that the guy didnt even think about what he was actually doing, as a user pointed out above, some people are very particular about their cars.
